How Much Does a Wedding Photographer Cost in Marseille in 2026?

10 mars 20269 min de lecture

Planning your wedding in Marseille, Aix-en-Provence or the Bouches-du-Rhône and looking for a photographer? The first question that comes to mind: how much will it cost? I hesitated before writing this article — talking about money in the wedding industry is almost taboo. But I believe transparency helps everyone. So here's what a wedding photographer in Marseille actually costs in 2026, with real, local numbers.

The Wedding Photography Market in Marseille: An Overview

Marseille isn't Paris. Prices are different, and so is the competition. The PACA region is one of the most in-demand areas for weddings in France — the Mediterranean light, the calanques, the wine estates and Provençal bastides draw couples from all over France and beyond.

This high demand pushes prices 15 to 20% higher than equivalent photographers in northern or eastern France. But the range remains wide, and there are options for every budget.

Real Price Ranges in Marseille in 2026

Here's what I see on the local market after studying the rates of around thirty photographers based in Marseille and the Bouches-du-Rhône:

Ceremony Only (2-3 hours): €200 to €600

If your budget is tight or you're having a small civil ceremony, some photographers offer short packages. You'll get coverage of the ceremony and a few portraits — around 50 to 100 edited photos.

Best for: intimate civil ceremonies, couples who want a few beautiful memories without investing in full-day coverage.

Half Day (4-6 hours): €400 to €1,200

This is the package that offers the best value for controlled budgets. It typically covers the preparations or ceremony, couple portraits and the cocktail hour. Expect 150 to 300 edited photos.

The price difference within this range mainly comes down to experience. A professional with 5 years' experience and a strong portfolio will be in the €800-1,200 range, while an early-career photographer will charge closer to €400-600.

Full Day (8-12 hours): €1,200 to €2,500

This is the most popular package in Marseille. The photographer accompanies you from preparations through to the first dance (or later). You'll receive 300 to 500 edited photos, a private online gallery, and sometimes a complimentary engagement session.

This is where the majority of Marseille's professional photographers sit. The differences come down to style (reportage, editorial, artistic), deliverables (gallery only or with album) and number of weddings under their belt.

Premium Package (full day + extras): €2,500 to €4,500

The most experienced and recognised photographers in Marseille charge in this range. These are professionals with 10+ years of experience, often published in specialist magazines, with a highly polished style.

At this price, expect personalised guidance over several months, extended coverage (12-14 hours), a premium photo album, fine art prints, sometimes a second photographer or videographer.

Why These Prices? What You're Actually Paying For

I regularly get messages like "€1,000 for photos — that's expensive." I understand the reaction. But here's what actually happens behind a wedding reportage:

Before your wedding (5-10 hours):

  • Email and phone exchanges to understand your plans
  • In-person or video call meeting
  • Venue scouting if needed
  • Equipment preparation, battery charging, card formatting

On the day (8-12 hours):

  • Continuous presence, often from 2pm to 2am
  • Maximum concentration for 10+ hours straight
  • Managing changing light (dark church → outdoors → reception hall)
  • Anticipating key moments (the groom's expression when he sees the bride, the father's tears, the best man's laughter)

After your wedding (15-25 hours):

  • Sorting through 2,000 to 4,000 raw photos
  • Selecting the best 300 to 500
  • Individual editing of each photo (colour, light, cropping)
  • Uploading to a private online gallery
  • Potentially: album design, USB preparation

In total, a wedding reportage represents 30 to 50 hours of work. Not counting the equipment investment: professional gear (camera bodies, lenses, lighting, backup memory cards) costs between €8,000 and €15,000, with replacement every 3 to 5 years.

Marseille vs Aix-en-Provence vs Rest of the Department

Rates aren't exactly the same across the region:

Central Marseille: rates sit at the upper average for the region. Competition is strong (around thirty active wedding photographers), which maintains good value for money. Plus, many photographers include travel within Marseille and nearby areas (Cassis, La Ciotat, Aubagne).

Aix-en-Provence: prices are similar to Marseille, sometimes slightly higher for photographers targeting upscale weddings around Mont Sainte-Victoire. The international clientele (destination weddings) pushes prices upward.

Rest of the Bouches-du-Rhône (Salon-de-Provence, Arles, Alpilles): you'll find slightly lower rates, with a range of €1,000 to €2,000 for a full day. Being further from Marseille often means additional travel fees.

How to Compare Quotes Wisely

When you receive 3 or 4 quotes from Marseille photographers, don't just look at the bottom line. Here are the questions to ask:

1. How Many Hours of Coverage?

A quote at €800 for 4 hours and one at €1,500 for 10 hours aren't comparable. Work out the hourly rate for a fair comparison.

2. How Many Photos Delivered?

Some photographers deliver 200 photos, others 500. But be careful: more doesn't mean better. A photographer who delivers 300 carefully selected and edited photos is often worth more than one who sends 800 barely sorted images.

3. Are Travel Costs Included?

For a wedding in the calanques, in Cassis or the Luberon, check what's covered. Some include a 30 km radius, others charge from the first kilometre.

4. What's the Delivery Timeline?

The standard in Marseille is 3 to 6 weeks. Be wary of timelines that are too long (over 3 months) or too short (under 2 weeks — which may indicate less rigorous selection).

5. Is There a Contract?

A professional photographer will always offer a contract. No contract = no guarantee. The contract should specify: the date, times, number of photos, delivery deadline, cancellation terms and image rights.

My Own Rates

I've chosen full transparency. Where most Marseille photographers don't publish their prices online, I display mine clearly on my pricing page.

My 2026 packages:

  • Half Day (4h): from €400
  • Essential (8h): from €800
  • Complete (10h+): from €1,000

Every package includes professional editing of all photos, a private HD online gallery, and complimentary travel within 30 km of Marseille. These are 2026 launch rates — I'm new to weddings but I have 10 years of photography behind me, including 3 years covering events across Provence.

Why these prices? Because I believe a good photographer shouldn't be reserved for big budgets. And at this stage of my career, I'd rather build my wedding portfolio with couples who trust me than charge rates my wedding experience doesn't yet justify.

5 Mistakes to Avoid When Looking for a Photographer in Marseille

1. Choosing on price alone. The cheapest photographer isn't always the best choice. And the most expensive isn't necessarily the right fit. Look at the portfolio, have a conversation, assess the connection.

2. Not checking the style. "Wedding photographer" covers very different styles: natural reportage, classic poses, editorial, artistic. Make sure the photographer's style matches what you like. Ask to see a full gallery (not just the 10 best portfolio shots).

3. Booking too late. Good photographers in Marseille get booked 6 to 12 months ahead for the May-September season. If you're getting married on a summer Saturday, start looking at least 9 months before.

4. Skipping the initial meeting. This photographer will spend 10 hours with you on the most important day of your life. Talent isn't enough — you need to click. A coffee, a video call, a venue visit: take the time to get to know each other.

5. Forgetting to ask for a contract. No contract, no security. Even with a friend or recommended photographer, put everything in writing. It protects both parties.
